Just to clarify.....

Folks here don't call deadhook "the other place" because it's a secret.

It is because there is general disdain over the way that site is moderated. With an iron-fist wrapped in troll-fuzz, imo.

Whether anybody agrees w/ that opinion of DH, I don't know. But I am 99% certain that the other place was never intended to be code for "where the cool kids are". We're here.

Get it straight!:)

Jerry Garcia, 1967: "What we're thinking about is a peaceful planet. We're not thinking of anything else. We're not thinking about any kind of power. We're not thinking about any of those kinds of struggles. We're not thinking about revolution or war or any of that. We would all like to be able to live an uncluttered life, a simple life, a good life and think about moving the whole human race ahead a step."

Joel Selvin: "The music changed just immediately. I cannot explain to you what it's like to be in a crowd of 5,000 people on LSD with the Grateful Dead, also on LSD, leading the crowd through a series of improvisations. Before that, rock and roll songs were three minutes, period, paragraph, we're out of here."

CBS reporter Harry Reasoner gets schooled about "hippies" and how war isn't the answer in this timeless, classic interview with the Boys "just growing up," in 1967. Reasoner goes on to exploit all of us as wasteful, no-gooders, drug-using, HIPPIES!

So why and what-the-fuck is being branded here, or perhaps rebranded? We get censored like cattle here if we dare say anything about how to pull VBRs of SBDs out of your cache... or maybe just right-click the damn thing. Yet re-branding and profiteering for illegal war abounds. I must not only be an old dinosaur, but a useless 420-using hippie caveman too.

*** Listen to Reasoner describing us hippies "didn't want much but 'on our own terms' and says it appears to be "style without content." "They object to the ills which beset society... war, social hatreds, money-grubbing spiritual wastes, but their remedy is to withdraw into private satisfactions... and the greatest waste of all."

believe me, you are not alone dead-head monte...

I wonder at times if this "dinosuar" thinking is based on aging or if there really is something bad going on here in terms of capitalism and the BIG historical picture. After a show or two thinking about it, I do believe aging and the "it was so much better back in my day" thought process clouds my vision to a degree but overall there does seem to be enough "evidence" about the BIG picture of capitalism changing to make me sit back and take notice. The question becomes what to do, what to do?

Not sure if it was marx or not, but someone wrote: "zombies don't revolt..." and zombies are what capitalism and commercialism has turned the masses into...

(ok, I am waiting for the youtube link for a zombie revolution movie...)

Joel Selvin: That might be the best thing I have seen written by the guy in ten years of reading him.

You guys can all kick my butt and vote to boot me off here anytime... but here goes anyway.

what have we learned? my post above is 1967. oh yeah, Viet Nam War: 3 million, maybe 4 million Vietnamese killed. Chemical weapons -- agent orange, white phosphorus incindiaries. Oh, and nearly 60,000 of our brothers killed, scores of thousands and thousands wounded and maimed. We hippies rebelled, and grew up with the Grateful Dead, and visa-versa. Together, we ended the useless fucking war bullshit. which was also based on a lie -- the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.

Much bigger lies got us into this illegal war and occupation in Iraq -- not just 100 per cent lies, but crap based on fear tactics. We fools fell for it. And the fucking press -- the same scumbag 5 or 6 mega-corporations that own all the radio stations, tv stations, cable channels, newschannels, newspapers and magazines, and the INTERNET too -- what did "they do?" Cheerleading and drum-beating for war! If you're not on-board or up-to-speed, you must watch or read BUYING THE WAR by Bill Moyers.

first-things-first: thanks for the set-me-up, veblen. Here's where you all can give me the boot. I'm gonna dive off the cliff now. Back in the day, the Vietnamese couldn't make a video and post it on the Internet. But we did have some press covering the war. Now look at the press. They stopped covering Iraq war a long time ago. But this Iraqi guy was able to make a video for us today and post it on the Internet. I'll remind you that we have 4000 US troops killed, scores of thousands injured and maimed. Over one million Iraqis killed, 4 million Iraqi refugees. Here's the youtube link for a zombie revolution movie.

There may be some here, who may not be averse to a little 'iron-fist wrapped in troll-fuzz' action. Not me personally of course, but I trust that if interested parties do show up, they won't be 'blocked', or is that code for some other activity? I think the forum has a right to know.

Hey Rob--serious question: have you seen the recent N Young DVD in Nashville (ie, just before his life saving surg)? I was somewhat disappointed in the songs he had written of late...love him, and know you do so just curious as to your take on it...not sure if I am over-reacting? Anyhowse, let me know.

WT - apologies for being so tardy in responding. I presume you mean the Jonathan Demme Heart of Gold dvd? Is so, then yes I tend to skip to the older songs when watching it. I'm very glad that Neil is still out there, still performing and giving it all he's got but hand on heart I haven't found much that he's put out since Harvest Moon that I'd call an essential purchase.

Of course I don't mind at all if he carries on performing and reissuing the old stuff. After all, the Grateful Dead were pretty much a spent force creatively post-1977 and Terrapin Station, but it was still worth hearing them play a few of the old songs now and then!

Yeah, Rob--that's it. I love the J Cash show bonus of him doing Needle/dam done on that DVD the most! And I like his older tunes as you noted, but somehow listening to the lyrics of anything written in the past five years left me flat.

Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something as a judgemental old bastard...

Ok.

Tell is one of THOSE!:)

I have no personal beef w/ DH. I just won't forget that post by Mr. DH which essentially drew a line in the sand.

It was wierd, pretentious and arrogant. So, I just don't go there anymore. I get enough Monarchy in the real world.

Well of course by "we" I meant to say "them" since they really don't grant me any sort of privileges over there...and since you play ball, I actually would have to let you in...okay, nevermind.
